How do I find the correct HS Code?

Edited

Customs regulations require all shipments departing Blackship to include an HS code. This code helps customs authorities quickly identify your items, which eases clearance and helps prevent shipping delays.

What Is an HS Code?

An HS (Harmonized System) code is a standardized six-digit number used internationally to classify goods for customs. Every item in your shipment needs one.

How to Find Your HS Code

You can find the right code using the search function built into our customs declaration tool:

  1. Enter a keyword for your item, such as “book” or “sweatshirt.” Our system will suggest the closest matches.

  2. Our system will suggest the closest matches.

  3. Select the matching six-digit HS code to proceed.

Tip: If your specific item doesn’t appear right away, try a broader term or a category name.

If You’re Unsure How to Classify an Item

Because international customs rules change frequently, we’re unable to provide definitive legal advice on which code to use for your specific items. If you can’t find an accurate match, or you’re unsure how to classify an unusual item, the best resource is to contact your local customs office directly for the most accurate, up-to-date guidance.

If You Can’t Find the HS Code or Customs Name

If the correct HS code or customs item name isn’t in our database, or the code your customs office suggests doesn’t appear, you can request that it be added. Please see here for instructions on how to add a missing HS code or customs name.
