New Turkish Customs Laws and What to Expect

Edited

As of mid-2025, the Turkish government has enacted strict new customs regulations that make it significantly more difficult to import goods into Turkey, even for small packages.

We’ve outlined everything you need to know below, along with your options and our recommendations for navigating these changes.

Lower Duty-Free Limit: €30 Maximum

The duty-free limit has been drastically lowered to €30 (including shipping), meaning:

  • Any package valued over €30 is now subject to steep import duties and stricter customs procedures.

  • Even packages under €30 may be taxed depending on the item’s category and country of origin.

What Happens Over €30?

  • 30% import duty for EU-origin goods

  • 60% import duty for non-EU goods (including Japan)

  • +20% Special Consumption Tax on certain categories (e.g. electronics)

  • Formal customs clearance required, including authorization documents

  • Shipping cost is included in the total value used for tax calculation

These rules apply to all international shipments into Turkey, including forwarded packages through services like Blackship.

Can You Still Import Items?

The only reliable way to avoid customs issues under current Turkish regulations is to ensure the total declared value remains under €30 including both the item cost and international shipping to Turkey.

However, please be aware that in many cases, the shipping cost alone will exceed this €30 threshold even before the item value is added.

If your declared value exceeds this limit, your package may be held for customs authorization, subject to high taxes or returned/destroyed by customs if not cleared promptly. We strongly recommend planning accordingly to avoid these risks.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Undervaluing Packages

Due to strict Turkish customs regulations, it's extremely important that all packages are declared accurately.

Read the following very carefully before proceeding with your order:

  • We strongly recommend declaring the fair market value of your items to comply with Turkish law.

  • Blackship cannot be held responsible for any customs-related delays, inspections, taxes or issues arising from mis-declared values.

  • We will not be able to offer refunds or compensation if your package is returned, held or discarded/destroyed by Turkish customs.
