Signing up with Blackship
Thanks for your interest in Blackship! Japanese Law requires that all package forwarding companies in Japan verify a user's proof of identity and address before shipping out of the country. Therefore all Blackship customers must go through our simple 4 step application to start shipping with us.
Applications require one document to verify your identity and one to verify your shipping address. These documents can be the same if they meet all requirements. You can see a full list of accepted documents and requirements by signing up for an account at blackship.com.
Once an application is submitted we will review within one business day (Monday to Friday, excluding Japanese Public Holidays). If there are any concerns with the application we will contact you via email with further details.
Accepted Documents
Identity Verification
Accepted verification documents include:
- Valid passport
- National identity card
- Driver's license
- Student card
- Residence card
- Health insurance card
Address Verification
For address verification, any of the above documents may be used again provided that the address is published on the document.
Other documents that can be used for address verification include:
- Cell phone bill (from within the last 90 days)
- Cable and/or Internet bill (from within the last 90 days)
- Utility bill (from within the last 90 days)
- Bank or credit card statement (from within the last 90 days)
- Vehicle registration documentation
- Family register
- Property Rental Agreement
Pending Applications
Once an application is submitted and you select a plan you will automatically be issued a Blackship mailbox number and address so you can start shopping right away. However, while you can use the address and have us receive packages, you will not be able to ship any packages from the Blackship warehouse until your application is approved.
Because of this we recommend waiting to use your address until you receive our official "Your Blackship application has been approved!" email. From this time you can ship packages from our warehouse with no further submission requirements.
If you have an urgent purchase (such as a timed, limited release) you can use the mailbox number immediately, but more steps may be required to ship the package from Blackship to you.
