Signing Up with Blackship

Under Japanese law, all package forwarding companies are required to verify each customer’s identity and address before shipping packages internationally. For this reason, every Blackship customer must complete our simple 4-step application process before they can begin shipping. Please note that we allow only one account per customer.

To complete your application, you’ll need:

• One document to verify your identity

• One document to verify your shipping address

In some cases, a single document can be used for both identity and address verification, as long as it meets all requirements. Please note that English documents are preferred, but other languages are accepted.

It is okay to put a watermark or blur parts of your documents to block your most sensitive information as long as the elements we require are still visible.

We accept the following documents for identity verification. The document must clearly show your name, birthdate, and a valid expiration date.

• Valid passport

• National identity card

• Driver’s license

• Student card

• Residence card

• Health insurance card

Your identity document can also be used for address verification ONLY IF it shows your current address.

If not, you may submit one of the following documents showing your current address. The document must be addressed to you:

• Vehicle registration

• Family register

• Property rental agreement

• Cell phone bill

• Cable, internet, or utility bill (issued within the last 90 days)

• Bank statement (issued within the last 90 days)

• Credit card statement (issued within the last 90 days)

When you sign up, enter your own current home address. This is the address we verify, and it is separate from the Blackship forwarding address you’ll use when shopping.

To avoid delays with your application:

• Enter your own residential home address, not a business or company address.

• Make sure the address you enter matches your address-verification document. If the two don’t match, even in a small aspect, we may not be able to approve your application.

• Include your building and room or apartment number where you have one.

• If your address does not include a postal code, this field is typically optional; you can leave it blank and continue.

• You can add your Tax ID during sign-up if you have one.

Once you submit your application, our team will review it within 1-2 business days (Monday–Friday, excluding Japanese public holidays).

If there are any issues or additional information needed, we will contact you by email with further instructions.

You're able to receive packages at your Blackship address while your application is still pending, as long as the package includes your name and mailbox ID. However, you won't be able to make any service requests (such as consolidation, photos, or shipping) for these packages until your application is approved.

Because of this, we'd recommend waiting until your application has been approved before sending any items to your Blackship address.

Once your application is accepted, you will receive your Blackship address.
