How to Use Blackship

Edited

Buying from Japanese online stores can be difficult since many shops do not ship internationally and require a domestic shipping address. Blackship solves this by giving you a personal Japanese address. You can shop from thousands of stores and have your packages forwarded directly to you.

Our service is designed for users who can handle their own payments and communications with Japanese retailers. If you run into payment issues or language barriers, our sister service Japan Rabbit can handle the purchasing process for you.

Getting Started

  • Sign Up and Verify: Create a free Blackship account. To comply with Japanese law, we must verify your identity before issuing your address. You will need to upload a valid photo ID and a document proving your current shipping address.

  • Get Your Address: Once our team approves your documents, your account will be fully verified and you will receive your personalized Blackship shipping address.

  • Shop Online: You can immediately start shopping at any Japanese online store. During checkout, enter your new Blackship address as the delivery destination. It is absolutely crucial that you include your unique mailbox number in the address line so we can instantly link the package to your account.

  • Get Notified: 24 to 48 hours after your package is officially delivered to our warehouse, we will process it into your mailbox. You will then receive both an email and a push notification in the Blackship app letting you know it has arrived. There is no need to notify us ahead of time.

  • Manage Your Shipment: Log into your account to fill out a quick customs declaration for your items and choose your preferred international shipping method. You can also select optional services like consolidating multiple packages, requesting photos of your items, or choosing expressed processing.

  • 1 Step Checkout (Pack and Ship): Submit your packing request and pre-approve a shipping threshold. Your payment is processed automatically as soon as packing is complete. If the final shipping cost exceeds your initial estimate and threshold, we will contact you directly to confirm the new price. If you decline, the packed items are returned to your mailbox so you can review your options.

  • 2 Step Checkout (Pack and Hold): Choose an international shipping method and submit your packing or consolidation request. Once complete, the package enters the "Ready to Ship" stage. You can then review the finalized shipping costs and pay at your convenience. Packages in the "Ready to Ship" stage receive 7 days of free storage, followed by 45 days of paid storage.
